Skin prick testing is one of the simplest, safest and most accurate ways to find out what you're allergic to — with results in about 20 minutes.
How It Works
A tiny drop of each suspected allergen is placed on the forearm, and the skin is gently pricked so a small amount enters just below the surface. If you're sensitive to an allergen, a small itchy bump — like a mosquito bite — appears within 15 to 20 minutes.
What It Can Test For
- Dust mites
- Pollen from trees, grasses and weeds
- Mould
- Pet dander
- Foods
- Insect venom, in selected cases
Is It Safe?
Skin prick testing is very safe and suitable for both children and adults. It uses tiny amounts of allergen and any bumps settle within a few hours. It's performed in a clinic equipped to manage the rare stronger reaction.
Preparing for the Test
Antihistamines can interfere with the results, so you may be asked to stop them for a few days beforehand. We'll give you clear instructions when you book.
Skin prick testing turns guesswork into answers — so your treatment targets the real trigger.
